We all know the “look”. The “I can’t be bothered/I’m tired/I have no idea what to wear” look that happens to so many Moms. Of course, having children is a huge life change, and how you look (more specifically, how you dress) may no longer seem like a priority. Especially when you’ve still got babies spitting up or wiping their grubby little hands all over you.

But then something strange happens. The kids are now in school, and there is no longer the risk of spit up or dirty little hand prints, but for some reason, you are still dressing in the same boring and predictable (and often baggy) clothes. Why? The answer I always hear from my Mom clients is that it is comfortable and easy. They say they want to look more stylish and put together, and feel great about how they look - but they just think it’s going to take too much work and they don’t know where to start. Well, here it is...my personally recommended Style Starter Kit for busy Moms - the pieces that will be the core of your wardrobe this season (by the way, minus the footwear and outwear, everything else is able to easily transition season to season).

1)      Pair of dark wash boot cut or slightly flared jeans - a dark wash always looks just that much more dressed up than a lighter denim.
2)      If you want to be a bit trendy, a pair of leggings or skinny jeans.
3)      A funky statement bag.
4)      A pair of flats (or wedges if you can handle them) and a pair of stylish but comfy boots.
5)      A cool jacket or coat.

Next, let’s add some personality to your look and mix it up with fun accessories like scarves, jewellery, and nice fitting tops with some sort of visual interest.

The key is to make sure many pieces can work together. In other words, the colours, and style go with one another. This is called creating a Wardrobe capsule and though it may seem like a lot of work to begin with, it really does take the stress out of getting dressed on a daily basis.

Here, some of my top stylish outfit ideas for busy Moms on the go using the basics, the added “personality” pieces, and the idea of a Wardrobe capsule (and yes, they are all comfortable and easy).

  1. I would be interested to know where you sourced the items. Especially the first two tops in the second picture.

Gret picks - really it is all about having these options in your wardrobe so that instead of dressing casual shlumpy it is casual chic.

  2. Hi Jane,

I'm glad you enjoyed my choices!

I get all my pics and build my collages using Polyvore.com. It has pieces from lines all over the world. Anything you see on their site can be ordered online, and they provide the link for you. Check them out and let me know what you think!
