Business Casual Made Easy

Business Casual. It's a bit of an oxymoron, isn't it?

Looking around these days, it appears as though many people have forgotten that the key word in that phrase really is, "Business", and not "Casual." Though you may work in a casual work environment and you may even be able to get away with jeans, it still doesn't mean you can wear what you wore to that house party Saturday night, what you wore to wash your car on the weekend, or the pieces you wear to work out in. In other words, no lulu lemon, flip flops, low cut tops, short shorts (and skirts), strapless tops, old looking jeans - I could continue, but you get the idea.

You are still at your place of work, where looking respectable and ready for a promotion at all times is important. Especially in this super competitive economy.

So, what should you wear then? I have built a small "Wardrobe Capsule" to give you some ideas for the current season below. It shows how a set number of items can be used interchangeably to create many more business casual appropriate looks. For example, these 10 garments can make 24 different outfits. That's not even including mixing the cardigan in and switching up the shoes. Also, don't forget accessories! Adding in some great statement and personality pieces will give you even more options. So, go have fun with your work wardrobe, but remember, not too much fun! It is still work - so don't be bringing your "weekend fun" look to the workplace.

  1. So when are you going to post the work clothes and not your weekend clothes?
